This course will provide the student with an understanding of the role of the Speech Language Pathologist and Communication Disorder Assistant and how they may work collaboratively with these professions as an OTA or PTA. The topics of communication, speech, language and swallowing will be discussed. Students will learn strategies that will assist them in their role as an OTA or PTA managing individuals with feeding and swallowing disorders. Students will explore language and communication disorders across the lifespan and strategies to improve communication. Augmentative/assistive communication devices commonly used will be explored.
